To enter the Home Health Aide (HHA) program, the student must have an active
California State Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate, or is also registered
to take the CNA class. The Home Health Aide program is a state certified add-on
certificate to the CNA certificate. HHA program prepares students for entry
level positions with home health agencies. It also prepares the HHA student to
providing care independently in the patient's home or in assisted living,
independent living, and hospice environments.
Certified Home Health Aides work under the direction and supervision of a
Registered Nurse. Certified Home Health Aides perform hands-on patient care to
meet the patient's needs in accordance with the plan of care. They also assist in
maintaining a safe and clean environment. Home Health Aides visit the homes of
the elderly, disabled, and the recovering client, in order to provide assistance with
every day tasks. They often work within the home setting in order to improve the
quality of life of their clients. More and more clients have begun to depend on
Home Health Aides because their services are often cheaper than hospital bills. The
home environment may also be more comfortable for clients and could help to
speed up the healing process.
